We employ cutting edge technologies invented and developed at the UK government’s world-renowned Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) to develop products that give end users an additional layer of defence in the Electro Optics environment.
Chris is an experienced lead scientist with a long track record of delivering high impact science and technology research in the field of optics and photonics. Chris is co-inventor of the key laser detection technology, providing both strategic and technical advice to ensure exploitation and increase impact on UK defence. Chris holds a PhD in optics, specifically focused on protecting imaging sensors from laser dazzle threats.
Sean is the Chief Technology Officer at Sentinel Photonics and is responsible for the scientific and technical challenges. As co-inventor of the laser detection technology, and with 5 years experience in the field of electro-optical protection measures within Dstl, Sean brings ample technical know-how and relevant experience to the role. Sean holds a MPhys in Astrophysics.
Sentinel Photonics makes laser protection available to all users.
Currently, laser protection is only available on large platforms due to the size and cost of current Laser Warning Systems (LWS). Our range of products allow any user to benefit from laser detection and protection in a low Size Weight and Power (SWaP) unit. This enables a wide range of air, sea and land platforms (including the dismounted soldier) to benefit from improved protection.
Sentinel Photonics was founded in 2019 by Ploughshare Innovations, Dstl’s technology transfer office. The company has an exclusive licence to develop and exploit certain patent protected technologies and know-how relating to electro-optic protective measures that originated within Dstl over many years of research, and which underpin the core operation of Sentinel’s products.
